Luis de la Fuente has continued writing chapters of success with the Spanish national team, guiding La Roja to the 2026 World Cup final with a 2-0 victory over France, adding a new achievement to his name following the UEFA Euro 2024 title.
Spain's coach praised his players after securing qualification, describing his country's team as "the best team in the world" after overcoming one of the tournament's strongest sides and booking a place in the final scheduled for Sunday.
De la Fuente confirmed that the project begun roughly 4 years ago has borne fruit in the current results, noting that the coaching staff had maintained the same philosophy throughout that period until it brought the national team to where it stands today.
The Spain coach said: "We faced one of the best national teams in the world, but they found themselves up against the best team in the world, and that is a different matter."
De la Fuente recorded his 3rd consecutive official victory over the French national team, having previously led La Roja to wins over Les Bleus at Euro 2024 and in the 2025 UEFA Nations League, with the 2026 World Cup semi-final now added to his winning run.
The Spanish coach led his country's team to their first World Cup final appearance since the 2010 edition, continuing the outstanding results he has achieved since taking charge.
De la Fuente paid tribute to his players, insisting they deserve everything they have achieved given the commitment, team spirit, and talent they have shown, adding that they make difficult things look easy on the pitch.
