Belgian Charles De Ketelaere ended the historic clean-sheet run of Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón, scoring against him during Spain's 2-1 victory over Belgium in the 2026 World Cup quarter-final — a match sealed by substitute Mikel Merino with a last-gasp goal in the 88th minute.

Simón's streak without conceding a goal at World Cup finals came to a halt at a full 650 minutes, having kept his net clean throughout Spain's campaign in the current tournament as well as in his previous World Cup appearances, before De Ketelaere's goal brought it to an end.

Despite the record coming to a close, Spain continued their march to the semi-finals, where a tough encounter with France awaits them, while De Ketelaere's goal was the only moment Belgium managed to breach the Spanish defence throughout the tournament.

Simón now holds the record for the longest consecutive clean-sheet run in World Cup history, surpassing Italy's Walter Zenga (517 minutes), England's Peter Shilton (502 minutes), Argentina's Sergio Romero (485 minutes), Germany's Sepp Maier (475 minutes), and Italy's Gianluigi Buffon (460 minutes).
