FIFA announced on Friday that its charitable arm will allocate $1 million to support relief efforts in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that recently struck Venezuela.

A minute of silence was observed at the 2026 World Cup matches currently being held in the United States, Mexico and Canada, in mourning for the victims, with the death toll standing at 3,811.

FIFA said in a statement that the funding provided by its foundation will help deliver urgent humanitarian aid to those affected by the disaster, support emergency response efforts, and assist communities in beginning their recovery.

Swiss FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in the statement: "The people of Venezuela have the full solidarity of the global football family during this extremely difficult time."

Infantino added: "Football has a unique ability to unite and instil hope, especially in times of crisis."

He said: "Through the FIFA Foundation, we are proud to stand by the people of Venezuela and support the humanitarian organisations and local partners who are working tirelessly to provide urgent assistance to those affected."
