Redknapp referred in his comments to the widespread controversy that swept World Cup circles following the direct intervention of US President Donald Trump with FIFA President Gianni Infantino to overturn the suspension arising from the red card received by American striker Folarin Balogun. Redknapp asked spontaneously and mockingly: "If Donald Trump can do it, why can't we?" — describing the decision against Quansah as something outrageous and deeply contentious.
