The Egyptian Football Association has announced that Hossam Hassan will continue as technical director of the Egypt national team, after the board of directors, chaired by Hany Abo Rida, approved the renewal of his contract — a step aimed at completing the national team's sporting project and building on the historic achievement the Pharaohs recorded at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The association confirmed in an official statement that the board approved the renewal of contracts with both Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan, the team's director, as part of the continued development plan for the Egyptian national team following its performance at the World Cup, which saw it reach the round of 16 for the first time in Egyptian football history.

Hany Abo Rida said the renewal decision reflects the desire to continue the sporting project and build on what was achieved over the past period, noting that the board will complete the procedures for approving and finalising the contract renewal at its next meeting, following the national team delegation's return to Egypt, according to the Egyptian Football Association's official statement.

The renewal came hours after Egypt's 2026 World Cup campaign ended, following a 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the round of 16 — a match in which the Egyptian side had led 2-0 until the closing minutes before the reigning champions overturned the result and secured their place in the quarter-finals.

Egypt concluded the tournament in unprecedented fashion, recording their first-ever World Cup victory, advancing to the knockout rounds for the first time, and making it past the round of 32 before bowing out against Argentina — earning widespread praise both domestically and internationally.
