FIFA has rejected the appeal submitted by the French national team to annul the yellow card received by Michael Olise during their 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, according to Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps.

Olise, one of the tournament's standout players so far, received the booking in the final minutes of a highly tense match in Philadelphia following a confrontation with Paraguay's Matías Galarza.

Deschamps, speaking at a press conference in Foxborough on the eve of the quarter-final clash against Morocco, said: "The yellow card has not changed. We received notification this morning from FIFA confirming the decision stands." Television replays showed only limited contact between the two players, with Olise placing his finger in front of Galarza's mouth before Galarza fell to the ground claiming he had been struck in the face.

With the booking confirmed, Olise faces the threat of suspension for the semi-final should he receive another yellow card against Morocco — if France advance — where they would face the winner of the Spain–Belgium tie. Bradley Barcola and Manu Koné face the same risk, having also been booked during the Paraguay match.
