England midfielder Jordan Henderson has undergone surgery on his left arm following an injury sustained during his team's celebrations after their 3-2 victory over Mexico in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup.

The 36-year-old suffered the incident when he lost his balance while leaning against an advertising hoarding before falling onto it and landing on his left arm during England's celebrations at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

Henderson was carried off the pitch on a stretcher before being transferred to hospital for treatment. The Brentford player will miss England's quarter-final clash against Norway on Saturday in Miami, and will also be absent for the remainder of the tournament should England continue their campaign, though he will stay with the Three Lions squad, which is based in Kansas City.

Henderson wrote on his Instagram account, accompanied by a photo of himself in a hospital bed: "Operation done and now let's get ready for the big game on Saturday. Thank you to all the medical staff at the Kansas City Orthopedic Institute, especially the three surgeons who performed the operation."

Henderson had featured for just 6 minutes in the current World Cup finals, coming on in the 2-0 group-stage win over Panama on 27 June.
