FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who holds Swiss-Italian nationality, confirmed that he received a call from US President Donald Trump regarding a red card shown to striker Folarin Balogun, explaining that he told Trump that FIFA's disciplinary bodies are "independent".
Infantino wrote on X: "During our conversation, I explained that a legal process is under way involving FIFA's independent judicial bodies, and that the matter will be resolved in due course by the competent authorities" — remarks that come as he has faced criticism from various quarters since FIFA decided to suspend the punishment imposed on Balogun.
