Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz announced on Sunday his departure from the Ghana national team after just three months in charge, following the team's elimination in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.

The 73-year-old took over the Ghanaian team in April, replacing Otto Addo, who parted ways with the squad 72 days before the start of the finals.

Queiroz wrote on his Instagram account: "I leave this journey proud of what we achieved, but also with that positive feeling of incompleteness that comes with always wanting more. Reaching a higher level should never be the final goal, but rather the beginning of greater ambitions."

Ghana beat Panama, drew with England, and then lost to Croatia, finishing third in Group 12 and qualifying as one of the eight best third-placed teams.

The Ghanaian team lost to Colombia 1-0 in the round of 32 and were eliminated from the tournament.

The former coach of Iran, Portugal, and Egypt had led Ghana in just one friendly match before the World Cup kicked off.
