Egypt's national team has continued to reap the rewards of its historic run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, climbing to 24th place in the provisional world rankings issued by FIFA after qualifying for the round of 16 for the first time in the country's history.

The ranking advance came following Egypt's victory over Australia on penalties, 4-2, after the match ended 1-1 at the end of both regular and extra time. The Pharaohs added 12.34 points to their tally, which rose to 1,597.04 points in the live rankings.

Egypt have made significant gains since the tournament began, rising five full places after starting the World Cup in 29th position and continuing to improve their standing with each positive result. The jump was achieved over a campaign that included a victory over New Zealand, draws with Belgium and Iran, and then a penalty shootout win over Australia in the team's first-ever knockout match at a World Cup.

Egypt have overtaken a number of teams with strong continental and international profiles, including Ecuador, Paraguay, Australia, and South Korea, as well as Poland, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, and Russia, in addition to Algeria, Nigeria, and Côte d'Ivoire, as the Pharaohs continue to strengthen their standing on the world stage.

Egypt face Argentina at 8:00 pm next Monday (UAE time) in the round of 16, in a historic match for the Pharaohs that will bring star Mohamed Salah face to face with Argentine football legend Lionel Messi.
