The streets of Cairo and several Egyptian governorates were filled with large celebratory scenes following Egypt's qualification for the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time in the national team's history, after settling their match against Australia on penalty kicks.

Streets filled with fans the moment the penalty shootout ended, with cars coming to a standstill in several areas as supporters poured out to celebrate the historic achievement by the "Pharaohs."

Cairo and other governorates witnessed large popular celebrations, in an atmosphere reminiscent of the joy Egyptian fans experienced during the generation led by former coach Hassan Shehata.

Egypt secured their place in the round of 16 after defeating Australia on penalties, following a 1-1 draw at the end of regular and extra time, claiming their first-ever advancement to this stage in their World Cup history.

Egypt now await the winner of the match between defending champions Argentina and Cape Verde to determine their round-of-16 opponent.
