Spain secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Austria at Los Angeles in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, advancing to face the winner of the Portugal-Croatia match in the round of 16.

Mikel Oyarzabal scored two goals in the 36th and 89th minutes to complete the Matador's hat-trick, while Pedro Porro added the third in the 66th minute.

Spain asserted their dominance from the opening whistle, controlling possession for most of the match and imposing their attacking rhythm on Austria, who sat deep and defended throughout, while the Spanish side created chance after chance and restricted their opponents to a handful of attempts that posed no real threat to the Spanish goal.

The referee disallowed a Spanish goal in the 29th minute after ruling a foul on Austrian goalkeeper Patrick Schlager, who then produced a fine save to deny a powerful Oyarzabal shot in the 33rd minute. The Spanish striker made amends quickly, however, converting a Marc Cucurella cross into the net in the 36th minute.

Spain continued to press before the end of the first half and nearly doubled their lead in the 45th minute when a shot from Aleix Ballena came back off the crossbar and Lamine Yamal followed up towards goal, only for Schlager to deny his attempt. The half ended with Spain leading 1-0 after a convincing attacking display.

Austria tried to reduce the deficit at the start of the second half, but a header from substitute Sasha Kaladzic sailed over the bar in the 60th minute.

Defender Pedro Porro extended Spain's lead in the 66th minute, heading home a precise cross from Aleix Ballena to bring Spain closer to confirming their qualification.

Oyarzabal completed the hat-trick in the 89th minute, capitalising on his side's supremacy right until the final moments and underlining Spain's dominance as they finished the match in emphatic style.
