Morocco have become the African nation with the most matches played at the FIFA World Cup, following their participation in a round-of-32 match at the 2026 World Cup — currently being held in the United States, Mexico and Canada — against the Netherlands.
Morocco, appearing at the World Cup for the seventh time in their history, have now played 27 matches at the tournament, breaking the record for the most matches played by an African nation at the World Cup, which they had previously shared with Cameroon on 26 matches.
Morocco played 3 matches in their World Cup debut at the 1970 edition in Mexico, before playing 4 matches at the 1986 edition, also held in Mexico.
The Moroccan national team played 3 matches each at the 1994, 1998 and 2018 editions, held in the United States, France and Russia respectively, while they participated in 7 matches at the previous edition held in Qatar in 2022, which witnessed their historic achievement as the first Arab and African nation to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.
During their participation in the current edition of the World Cup, Morocco played against Brazil, Scotland and Haiti in the group stage, before qualifying for the knockout rounds after finishing second in Group C, and are now playing their fourth match of the tournament against the Netherlands, who topped Group F, in the round-of-32.
