Japan and Sweden drew 1-1 at Dallas stadium in the final round of Group 6 matches, with both sides advancing together to the last 32 of the 2026 World Cup after an evenly contested match in which each team earned one point.

Japan finished the group stage in second place with 5 points, setting up a mouth-watering last-32 encounter against Brazil, who topped Group 3, while Sweden secured their place as one of the best third-placed teams with 4 points, awaiting the completion of results from the remaining groups to determine their next opponent.

The first half ended goalless after both sides failed to capitalise on the chances available to them, with clear defensive discipline on either side, as Japan gradually attempted to impose their rhythm without managing to find the net before the break.

Japan took the lead in the 56th minute through Daizen Maeda, following an organised attack and a precise pass from Ritsu Doan, which he finished with composure into the Swedish goal.

Sweden equalised in the 62nd minute through Anthony Elanga, who unleashed a superb left-footed strike that nestled in the far corner of the goal of keeper Zion Suzuki.

Alexander Isak almost gave Sweden the lead three minutes later, but Suzuki shone in the 65th minute to deny his dangerous attempt, preserving the draw that held until the final whistle despite efforts from both sides.
