Brazil, Morocco, Switzerland, Canada, Mexico and South Africa have advanced to the round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The matchday was marked by a convincing 3-0 win for Brazil over Scotland, a 4-2 victory for Morocco over Haiti, a perfect nine points for Mexico with a third consecutive win over the Czech Republic, Switzerland seizing top spot in their group by beating Canada, South Africa booking their historic first place in the knockout rounds, and Qatar suffering a defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina that ended their hopes of progressing.
Qatar conceded 2 goals within five minutes in the first half and failed to capitalise on their chances in the second, losing 3-1 to Bosnia and Herzegovina to exit the World Cup.
Bosnia took the lead in the 29th minute with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area by Kerim Ali Bejović.
Just five minutes later, Bosnia doubled their lead through an own goal by Sultan Al Breik, when a shot from Edin Džeko deflected off him and changed direction into the net of his own team.
In his 150th appearance for Bosnia, Džeko came close to extending his side's lead with a powerful shot that came back off the post.
Qatar pulled one back in the 42nd minute when Hassan Al Haydos fired home from close range.
Pedro Miguel almost levelled for Qatar in first-half stoppage time, but his shot was also denied by the post.
Qatar, who hosted the previous edition of the tournament, continued to press in the second half and squandered numerous chances before being punished in the 80th minute when Ermin Mahmutović scored the third goal.
With this result, Qatar finish bottom of the group on 1 point and are eliminated, while Bosnia raised their tally to 4 points, moving closer to qualification as one of the best eight third-placed sides.
At the same time, Switzerland beat Canada 2-1 to take top spot in the group on 7 points, 3 points ahead of Canada, who qualified in second place.
Switzerland will remain in Vancouver for their round-of-32 match, while Canada — who needed just one point to top the group — travel to Los Angeles for their next match.
After a modest first half, Switzerland came out strongly: in the first minute of the second half, striker Johan Manzambi (20) played the ball to Ruben Vargas, who had plenty of space to prepare before calmly slotting it into the near post.
Switzerland doubled their lead 11 minutes later when Breel Embolo held the ball in the centre of the penalty area and laid it off to Manzambi, who finished with a delicate touch.
Canada reduced the deficit in the 76th minute after coach Jesse Marsch made changes to the lineup. Substitute Promise David received a pass from Nathan Saliba and struck the ball first time beautifully into the corner, sparking widespread celebrations among Canada's supporters.
Canada's fans continued to cheer their team enthusiastically, but Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was outstanding in protecting his goal. The match proved a stern test for Canada, who had drawn 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening game before beating Qatar — who played with 9 men — 6-0.
Achraf Hakimi and Ismail Saibari scored two goals in the first half, and Soufiane Rahimi and Yassine Jassim added two late second-half goals as Morocco claimed an exciting 4-2 win over Haiti on Thursday to qualify from Group 3 to the round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup, alongside Brazil, who confirmed their place at the top of the group with a 3-0 win over Scotland.
Morocco, who finished fourth at the 2022 World Cup, were surprised by an energetic performance from Haiti — the first team confirmed eliminated from the current tournament — who showed great determination to write a memorable ending to their campaign.
Haiti led twice in the first half, through an own goal by Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou as he attempted to save a shot from Lenny Joseph, and another scored by Wilson Isidor with a thunderous strike.
Morocco equalised on both occasions through goals by Achraf Hakimi and Ismail Saibari, before sealing the match in the second half: Rahimi scored in the 78th minute, less than eight minutes after coming on as a substitute, then set up a goal scored by fellow substitute Jassim in the 89th minute.
Brazil recorded a commanding 3-0 victory over Scotland in the final round of group-stage fixtures at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, confirming their qualification to the round of 32 as group leaders.
Brazil, the tournament's record champions with 5 titles, continued their strong form by beating Scotland 3-0 — the same scoreline by which they defeated Haiti in the previous round.
Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior scored twice, first in the 7th minute and again in the 3rd minute of first-half stoppage time, before Manchester United striker Matheus Cunha added the third in the 60th minute.
Brazil moved to 7 points at the top of Group 3, separated from Morocco by goal difference, with the two sides having drawn 1-1 when they met in the first round.
Mexico, one of the three host nations of the 2026 World Cup, completed a perfect record in Group 1 with a third consecutive win, beating the Czech Republic 3-0 in Mexico City.
Mateo Chávez gave Mexico the lead in the 55th minute, before Al-Qadsiah Saudi Arabia striker Julián Quiñones exploited confusion in the defence six minutes later to score the second at Estadio Azteca in front of 80,000 spectators. In stoppage time, Álvaro Fidalgo added the third (90+4).
South Africa advanced to the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time on Thursday, when Thabelo Masiko scored in the second half to give his side a 1-0 win over South Korea, who remain in contention to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams. Masiko drove the ball into the bottom corner in the 63rd minute, leaving South Africa — who will face Canada, one of the three host nations, in Los Angeles on 28 June — on 4 points, behind group leaders Mexico, who have 9 points after their 3-0 win over the Czech Republic at the same time.
