Spain's training session at their camp in the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee, was called off after just 15 minutes due to a thunderstorm, a day after their 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia and with their upcoming match against Uruguay at the 2026 World Cup only days away.

A warning message from the National Weather Service read: "A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for this area, with the possibility of destructive winds reaching speeds of up to 80 miles per hour (128 km/h)."

The message, sent minutes before the players arrived at the training ground, added: "Remain on alert for the possible formation of a tornado. Tornadoes can develop rapidly from severe thunderstorms."

After the first 15 minutes of the training session, which had been open to the media, all 25 players — with the exception of the injured Víctor Moriones — left the pitch and headed to a nearby gymnasium in heavy rain.

At the start of the session, Rodri and Mikel Merino, both of whom turned 30, and coach Luis de la Fuente, who turned 65, were honoured by their teammates with a guard of honour.

Speaking to the media hours before the session, De la Fuente said of his birthday celebration: "I celebrated it in a personal way, and today we will do something together with Merino and Rodri."
