The Spanish national team recorded a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia on Sunday in the second round of Group 8 matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The goals came from Lamine Yamal (10'), Mikel Oyarzabal (21' and 24'), and an own goal by defender Hassan Al-Tambakti (49').

The result lifted La Roja's tally to 4 points, putting one foot in the second round after their goalless draw with Cape Verde in the opening matchday, while Saudi Arabia remain on 1 point following their earlier 1-1 draw with Uruguay.

Spain asserted control from the opening minutes, relying on possession and rapid movement along the flanks led by young talent Lamine Yamal, who threatened early before opening the scoring in the 10th minute following a swift counter-attack that he finished with a shot from inside the penalty area after a cross from Oyarzabal.

The Spanish side maintained their intense pressure on the Saudi defence and converted their superiority into a second goal in the 21st minute, when Oyarzabal capitalised on a headed pass from defender Aymeric Laporte following a corner kick, slotting the ball into the net from close range.

Spain gave their opponents no time to recover, as Oyarzabal returned just three minutes later to complete his personal brace and make it 3-0 for his country, turning in a headed pass from Dani Olmo inside the six-yard box and sending it into the top corner of the net.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, struggled greatly to match Spain's tempo, managing only a handful of scattered attempts, most notably through Salem Al-Dawsari and Musab Al-Juwayr, though none carried sufficient threat to trouble goalkeeper Unai Simón.

At the start of the second half, Saudi Arabia suffered a further blow when defender Hassan Al-Tambakti accidentally turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a Spanish cross, making it 4-0 in the 49th minute.

Both managers made several substitutions in the second half, with the Spanish coach introducing a number of key and backup players to maintain the high tempo, while Saudi Arabia attempted to improve their showing and reduce the deficit without success.

Despite some late Saudi chances — most notably a shot by Abdullah Al-Hamdan which Simón saved — Spain maintained their complete dominance until the final whistle. VAR also disallowed a fifth Spanish goal in stoppage time, scored by Ferran Torres, for offside.

Spain now find themselves in a comfortable position ahead of the third and final matchday, while Saudi Arabia will need a positive result against Uruguay to revive their hopes of reaching the second round, pending the outcome of the remaining Group 8 fixtures.
