England defender Dan Burn swapped his football boots for cowboy boots at a country music concert, after manager Thomas Tuchel's players were given a chance to relax following their victory over Croatia in the opening match of their 2026 World Cup campaign.
The players were given a day off, and the Newcastle United defender was given the green light to attend a concert by singer Ella Langley near the national team's training base in Kansas City, alongside captain and Bayern Munich top scorer Harry Kane.
Burn told reporters: "Yesterday we had a day set aside for friends and family. My wife came from Dallas and I was able to spend the day with her, then in the evening Ella Langley was putting on a show."
He added: "I love country music, so I put on the cowboy hat and the boots as well. Luckily there are no photos of that floating around."
He continued: "I went and bought some boots yesterday. I got myself ready and said: if you're going to do it, do it properly."
He said he thoroughly enjoyed attending the concert, noting that Ella Langley is a standout country artist, and that having the chance to do things like this was good before returning focus to football.
The English defender noted that the players had to leave early so as not to breach squad rules, saying: "We missed the last three songs because we had to be back before curfew, which annoyed me a little bit — those were the best three songs."
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka did not take part in group training sessions as England intensified their preparations for next week's second-round match against Ghana.
Saka, who came on as a substitute in Wednesday's opening 4-2 win over Croatia, was training individually while continuing to manage an Achilles tendon injury that troubled him towards the end of the domestic season.
There are no concerns over the Arsenal winger's fitness for Tuesday's match in Boston, and Tuchel expects him to be fit to start in the final group-stage match against Panama next Saturday.
Burn underlined the importance of a strong start from both Kane and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, after the pair scored against Croatia in Arlington, Texas.
Burn said: "They are the leaders of the group and they play for big clubs and are at the peak of their careers."
The 34-year-old defender added: "Any squad that has world-class players needs to keep them in the best physical condition to perform and score goals."
He continued: "You need a bit of luck to get through the later stages of a tournament, but Harry scoring the goals he scored, and Jude being present in every corner of the pitch, was important."
He concluded: "I really feel that Jude is the kind of player you can sense when he is at his best, and sometimes he sets the tempo of the match."
