Young Senegalese striker Ibrahim Mbaiye has written his name into African football history, becoming the youngest African player and the youngest Senegalese player to score a goal at a FIFA World Cup finals.

Mbaiye scored his country's only goal in a 1-3 defeat to France in the first round of Group 9 at the 2026 World Cup.

The goal came in the closing minutes of the match, with Mbaiye becoming the youngest African scorer in World Cup history at 18 years and 143 days, adding a new record to Senegal's World Cup appearances.
