FIFA President Gianni Infantino has sent a congratulatory letter to Egypt national team captain Mohamed Salah on the occasion of his birthday, expressing his appreciation for Salah's support and cooperation in making the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico, a success.

The official account of the Egyptian Football Association on social media platform X published Infantino's letter to Salah, which read: "Dear Mohamed, I congratulate you on the occasion of your birthday. I wish this special day brings you happiness, good health and continued success, both on a personal and professional level."

He added: "As the first-ever 48-team FIFA World Cup kicks off, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, and prepares to unite the world through the passion of football, I greatly appreciate your support and cooperation in helping to make this edition of the World Cup the most successful ever."

The FIFA president concluded his letter by saying: "I wish you a wonderful day with your family and loved ones, and I look forward to continuing to work together for the development and growth of this beautiful game that brings us all together. I also look forward to seeing you again very soon to congratulate you in person."

Egypt began their 2026 World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Belgium in a match held in the city of Seattle as part of Group G, which also includes Iran and New Zealand.

Salah started the match against Belgium before being substituted after more than a quarter of an hour into the second half, with promising 18-year-old Barcelona striker Hamza Abd El Karim taking his place.
