Livano Komenencia has written his name in golden letters in the football history of Curaçao after scoring his country's first-ever goal at a World Cup finals, netting the equaliser to make it 1-1 against Germany in a Group 5 match at the 2026 World Cup. Although Germany's net shook again with further goals after the equaliser, Komenencia's strike will forever be etched in history.
The historic goal by the 22-year-old Komenencia gave Curaçao an extraordinary moment in the Caribbean nation's first-ever appearance at the global football showpiece, making him the first player to score for the island nation at a World Cup finals.
Komenencia currently plays for Swiss club FC Zürich, having come through the PSV Eindhoven academy in the Netherlands before moving to Juventus Next Gen in Italy and then to the Swiss league. He was previously named by The Guardian among the most prominent football talents in the world born in 2004.
Despite having represented Netherlands youth teams, the player decided to represent Curaçao at senior international level from 2024 onwards. With his goal against Germany, Komenencia has become a symbol of an unprecedented achievement in Curaçao football history — a moment that will remain firmly etched in the memory of the small island's fans for many years to come.
