Moroccan international star Achraf Hakimi has added another milestone to his distinguished career, after appearing in his country's match against Brazil at the FIFA World Cup.

Hakimi was included in Morocco's starting lineup for their match against Brazil on Saturday evening local time, in the first round of Group C of the group stage of the World Cup, currently being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Hakimi became the most-capped Moroccan player in World Cup history after playing his 11th match at the tournament, surpassing his compatriot Hakim Ziyech, who made 10 appearances at the finals.

Hakimi also became the most-capped African player in World Cup history, level with retired stars Cameroonian François Omam-Biyik and Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan, according to the global football statistics website Transfermarkt.

Hakimi featured in 3 matches with Morocco at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where the team was eliminated in the group stage, before going on to play in all 7 of the Atlas Lions' matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, during which the team achieved their historic feat of becoming the first Arab and African side to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup.

The Paris Saint-Germain star, who recently won the UEFA Champions League, played his 11th World Cup match with Morocco against Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.
