Moroccan star Ismail Saibari made history at the FIFA World Cup after becoming the first Arab player to score against the Brazil national team at the tournament.

Saibari opened the scoring for Morocco in the 21st minute of their match against Brazil on Saturday evening local time, in the first round of Group C of the World Cup group stage, which is currently being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Saibari received a through ball from Brahim Díaz, found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and lobbed the ball from outside the penalty area, taking advantage of Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker having come off his line, to put it in the net.

This is the second meeting between the two sides at the World Cup, and Brazil's third match against an Arab nation at the tournament.

Brazil's first encounter against an Arab team was against Algeria in the group stage of the Mexico 1986 edition, at the Jalisco stadium in Guadalajara on 6 June, with the "Samba dancers" winning 1-0 through a goal scored by Careca.

Brazil's second match against Arab nations also came in the group stage, at the France 1998 edition against Morocco, with the South Americans winning 3-0 through goals from Ronaldo, Rivaldo, and Bebeto.
