David Beckham and his wife Victoria added a touch of star power to the United States' opening match at the World Cup against Paraguay, which they watched alongside Tom Cruise.

The United States are the last of the three host nations to play their matches, after Mexico opened the tournament on Thursday and Canada drew with Bosnia and Herzegovina earlier on Friday.

In a manner befitting a match held in Los Angeles, there was a notable Hollywood presence in the stands.

The Beckhams were seen watching the match alongside the star of the Mission: Impossible film franchise, hours after the former English midfielder received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Halle Berry, who played a Bond girl in the 2002 film Die Another Day, appeared on the big screen, according to the British news agency PA Media.

Also in attendance was 1980s star Rob Lowe, known for films such as St. Elmo's Fire and The Outsiders, as well as the hit television series The West Wing, along with Paris Hilton, who appeared to be taking a selfie when the camera cut to her.

The United States rounded off the series of World Cup opening ceremonies, following Mexico and Canada, who each held ceremonies ahead of their respective matches in the tournament, which is co-hosted by the three nations from 11 June to 19 July.

The opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup got under way with pre-match performances ahead of the host nation's opening match against Paraguay in Los Angeles.

The ceremony officially began with a drum performance, signalling the start of the United States' World Cup opening celebrations.

The ceremony featured a drum display before Future and Tyla took to the stage to perform their song
