The fourth meeting of the Committee of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was held in Abu Dhabi, co-chaired by His Excellency Said Al Hajeri, Minister of State, and His Excellency Kamaal R. Faswani, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to the UAE, in Singapore's capacity as chair of the committee for the period from January to June 2026.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Mohamed Al Qubaisi, the UAE's Ambassador to ASEAN, and the Ambassadors of ASEAN member states accredited to the UAE, within the framework of joint efforts aimed at strengthening the growing partnership between the UAE and ASEAN, following the UAE's accession as a sectoral dialogue partner of the association in 2022 and the implementation of the joint plan of action between the two sides for 2024–2028.
At the opening of the meeting, His Excellency Said Al Hajeri welcomed the Ambassadors, expressing the UAE's appreciation for the Republic of Singapore's efforts during its chairmanship of the committee. He also welcomed the Socialist Republic of Vietnam's assumption of the committee's chairmanship from July 2026.
His Excellency reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to continuing to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN across various areas of mutual interest, noting that the ASEAN Committee in Abu Dhabi represents an important platform for dialogue, coordination, and the exploration of practical cooperation opportunities between the two sides.
The meeting featured constructive discussions on ways to implement the joint plan of action and enhance cooperation across a number of priority sectors.
Both sides affirmed their keenness to continue regular coordination and consultation, and to explore new opportunities to elevate the partnership in ways that contribute to achieving sustainable economic development and shared prosperity.
The two sides also discussed the latest regional and international developments, and underscored the importance of containing tensions in the region and the need to continue diplomatic efforts to promote security and stability.
