Manchester United have signed Belgium national football team captain Youri Tielemans from domestic rival Aston Villa on a contract running until June 2031. The club said in a statement: "Manchester United are delighted to announce the signing of Youri Tielemans, subject to the completion of official registration formalities. The midfielder has signed a contract until June 2031."
The 29-year-old has been playing in England since 2019, when he joined Leicester City from Monaco, before moving to Aston Villa in the summer of 2023 as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with the 2016 league champions.
Tielemans, who has made 90 international appearances for Belgium, has just returned from the World Cup, where he helped lead his country to the quarter-finals. The Belgian played an influential role last season in guiding Aston Villa to victory in the Europa League at the expense of German side Freiburg, and to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League — directly behind his new club United.
