Barcelona have asked the Spanish football league (La Liga) to play the first half of the 2027/2028 season at the Olympic stadium Montjuïc, during the period when a roof is being installed at Camp Nou — a project set to begin in June 2027.

Spanish newspaper Sport reported that the expected duration of the roof installation work could last up to four and a half months, extending until mid-October, though Barcelona has been cautious in its approach to the matter.

The same newspaper added that La Liga, headed by Javier Tebas, has yet to respond to Barcelona's request. The club is keen to avoid any potential delay that could hold up the entire process, and has decided to play all of its first-round matches — including Champions League fixtures — at Montjuïc.

Alongside the roof installation, Barcelona will carry out further changes at their stadium. Under UEFA regulations, each club must play all of its first-round matches at the same venue.
