Ipswich Town, competing in the Premier League, announced on Wednesday that they have signed Brazilian striker Emerson Correia da Silva from French club Toulouse on a five-year contract.
British media reports said that Emerson, 21, has become the first player to join the club under new manager Gary O'Neil, in a club-record deal worth £26.6 million ($35.54 million).
Emerson said: "I am extremely proud to sign for Ipswich Town." He added: "I have always dreamed of playing in the Premier League, and I am confident I have chosen the perfect club to make that dream a reality. I will give everything I have for the team in every match, and I am eager to get started and get to know my new teammates as well as the supporters."
Emerson scored 7 goals in 31 matches during his only season with Toulouse after joining the French club in September last year. Before his move to France, the striker made 13 appearances for Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense and also had a spell with Turkish side Göztepe.
Ipswich face Sunderland on 22 August as they return to the top flight for the first time since 2001, having finished second in the Championship last season.
