Real Madrid have signed Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries from Italian club Inter Milan for approximately 20 million euros ($23 million), according to an announcement by last season's La Liga runners-up. The club said: "We have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Denzel Dumfries, who will be tied to our club for the next four seasons until 30 June 2030."

The signing of the 30-year-old Dumfries comes as part of the squad-strengthening drive at the 15-time European champions under new Portuguese manager José Mourinho, who has returned for a second spell in charge after his first between 2010 and 2013, succeeding Álvaro Arbeloa.

The Spanish capital club's management is seeking to rebuild the team following two consecutive seasons without major trophies. Dumfries will increase competition at right back alongside English international Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Dutch player joined Inter from Eindhoven in 2021, and won the Serie A title twice with the Lombardy club in 2024 and 2026, as well as finishing as runner-up in the UEFA Champions League twice in 2023 and 2025.

Dumfries is Real Madrid's fourth signing this summer, following left back Marc Cucurella, Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, and French centre-back Ibrahima Konaté.

Dumfries featured for the Netherlands at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, currently being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, playing the full 90 minutes in all four matches before his country were eliminated in the round of 32 by Morocco, losing 2-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal and extra time. He contributed 2 assists in the tournament.
