Olympique de Marseille, competing in the French Ligue 1, have announced the termination of their contract with coach Habib Beye, just over four months after his appointment. The former Marseille captain had taken charge in February, leading the team to a fifth-place finish in the league last season and failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Beye, 48, played for Marseille between 2003 and 2007, in a career that also included spells with Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

Marseille said: "Olympique de Marseille announces the end of its collaboration with Habib Beye and thanks him, wishing him every success in his future career." French media reports indicated that Bruno Genesio, the former coach of Olympique Lyonnais, Rennes and Lille, is expected to replace Beye as Marseille manager.
