Polish star Robert Lewandowski, striker for Spanish club Barcelona, has moved closer to announcing his next destination following his departure from the Catalan club.

The Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported on its website two weeks ago that Lewandowski had travelled to the United States to meet officials from American club Chicago Fire, who have been seeking to sign him since December.

The newspaper also revealed that the Polish striker met in Barcelona with Gregg Berhalter, the American club's sporting director, who presented him with a two-season offer.

Mundo Deportivo cited renowned football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano as reporting that Lewandowski had accepted the American club's offer, a claim the newspaper also confirmed independently.

Lewandowski is scheduled to travel to the United States soon to sign his new contract, with the official announcement likely to be made next Monday, though it could be delayed by a few more days.

The newspaper noted that Chicago Fire, which is looking to compete for the MLS title, presented Lewandowski with an attractive offer worth an annual salary of 20 million dollars.

It added that Lewandowski preferred Chicago Fire's offer over larger offers from the Saudi league.

The report concluded that the veteran striker is currently on holiday with his family in Turkey, resting and recharging after a busy season with Barcelona.
