AC Milan has decided to appoint Massimo Calvelli as its chief executive officer as the club seeks to restore a winning culture. Calvelli, 51, succeeds former CEO Giorgio Furlani, who was dismissed last month by the club's American owners, RedBird Capital Partners, as part of a sweeping round of changes prompted by what the owners described as an abject failure of last season.
Gerry Cardinale, managing partner at RedBird, said: "The mission is clear — we will play to win, rather than play not to lose, in everything we do at Milan, and most importantly, on the pitch."
He added: "The entire Milan ecosystem will benefit from Calvelli's appointment to this role because of his urgent desire to restore a winning culture and positive results to the club." Calvelli will continue in his roles as CEO of RedBird Group and operating partner. A former professional tennis player, he served as chairman of the ATP Players Council between 2020 and 2025.
Milan spent most of last season among the top positions in the Serie A table and were in contention for the title, but a run in which they won just twice in their final 8 matches caused them to slip to fifth place on the final matchday, missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification. That led to a series of decisions and dismissals, including that of coach Massimiliano Allegri, who was replaced this month by Portuguese manager Rúben Amorim.
