Málaga have returned to Spain's top football division after an eight-year absence, following a 2-1 away victory over Almería in the second leg of the La Liga promotion play-off final.
After the first leg ended in a goalless draw, the side managed by Juan Francisco Fúnez secured promotion following a match marked by excitement and tension right up to the final whistle.
Málaga confirmed their return to the top flight thanks to goals from Chubbi in the 65th minute and David Larrubia six minutes later, while Brazilian Leo Baptistao pulled one back for Almería in the 76th minute.
The match also saw a player from each side sent off in stoppage time: Brazilian Talles from Almería (90+4) and Irishman Aaron Ochoa from Málaga (90+9).
The Andalusian club, which took part in the UEFA Champions League during the 2012-13 season, was relegated from the first division in 2018 and continued its decline by dropping to the third division in 2023, before beginning its journey back.
