Liverpool, fifth in the English Premier League, have won the race to sign Spanish striker Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna in a deal valued at £34.5 million ($45.5 million). Muñoz, currently with the Spanish national team at the World Cup in North America, underwent his medical at Spain's training base in Tennessee and has agreed a six-year contract with Liverpool.
The 22-year-old will become the first signing for the Reds' new manager, his compatriot Andoni Iraola, since he took charge as the replacement for the dismissed Dutch coach Arne Slot.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Liverpool FC have reached an agreement to sign Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna, subject to a work permit and international clearance."
Newcastle had been in advanced negotiations to sign Muñoz following their sale of winger Anthony Gordon to Spanish club Barcelona, while Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen were also reported to be interested in his services.
However, Liverpool convinced Muñoz — who scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists in 36 matches last season — to move to Anfield after triggering the release clause in his contract.
Muñoz came through Barcelona's La Masia academy before moving to Real Madrid, where he made just 2 appearances, and then joined Osasuna in July 2025. Capable of playing on either wing, he will help Iraola fill the significant void left by the departure of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah during the summer transfer window.
The player has made 2 international appearances for the Spanish national team since his debut in March, and is set to join his new teammates later in the summer after the World Cup concludes.
Liverpool are also believed to be interested in young Ivory Coast international striker Yan Dioumandi of German club RB Leipzig, who is participating in the World Cup with the Elephants.
French defender Jérémy Jacquet had previously agreed to join Liverpool from Rennes in July in a deal negotiated earlier this year.
