Reports indicate that Portuguese manager José Mourinho is keen to bring former German midfielder Sami Khedira into his coaching staff following his return to the helm of Spanish club Real Madrid.
The Athletic and Spanish sports newspaper AS revealed that consultations are under way regarding an assistant coach position, and both outlets confirmed that Khedira, 39, is considering the matter.
Mourinho was behind the signing of Khedira during his first spell as Real Madrid manager, which lasted until 2013, with the German international — a 2014 World Cup winner — remaining at the Spanish club until 2015.
Khedira retired from football in 2021 and has no previous coaching experience.
The name of former Real Madrid defender Pepe has also been linked with joining the coaching staff of his fellow Portuguese compatriot Mourinho.
However, the former defender denied these claims on social media, confirming that he had not spoken with Mourinho about joining Real Madrid's technical and coaching staff.
Pepe, 43, did not rule out a return to Real Madrid, but stressed that he is not currently considering the matter.
