The Jordan Football Association has dismissed coach Jamal Sellami following the country's group-stage exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In Jordan's first-ever World Cup appearance, the team lost to Austria 1-3, Algeria 1-2, and Argentina 1-3, and was eliminated after losing all hope of advancing following their second match. Sellami, a former coach of Raja Casablanca and Fath Union Sport in Morocco, had a contract that was due to run until the 2027 Asian Cup.
Jordan Football Association president Prince Ali bin Al Hussein wrote on his X account alongside a photo of himself with Sellami: "During my meeting today with my dear brother Captain Jamal Sellami, and as your journey with the Nashama comes to a close, we thank you for your efforts and outstanding contribution, and for your role in achieving the historic milestone of qualifying our national team for the World Cup."
He continued: "Your experience with the Nashama was an exceptional one, and you will always remain a cherished son of Jordan, for the dedication, professionalism, and leadership spirit you brought. All our best wishes for continued success in your next chapter — you will always be welcome as an advisor and a source of expertise we value and benefit from."
Following the defeat to Argentina, Sellami noted that mistakes made against the world champions come at a heavy price, but stressed that his players had grown more aware of the demands of competing at the highest level.
