Imam Ashour, the midfielder and star of the Egyptian national team, has written his name in golden letters in the Pharaohs' World Cup records during his participation with his country's team in the current edition of the tournament being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ashour joined a rare list comprising only two Egyptian players — star Mohamed Salah and Abdel Rahman Fawzi — after scoring a goal against Australia in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.
Ashour had opened the scoring for the Egyptian national team against Australia after he directed a cross from Karim Hafez directly into the Australian net with his head in the 13th minute.
Imam Ashour became the third Egyptian player to score 2 goals for the national team in World Cup history, having previously scored in Egypt's 1-1 draw with Belgium in the first matchday of the group stage.
Ashour also became the second Egyptian player after Mohamed Salah to successfully score in 2 different matches in the tournament. The Al Ahly midfielder has confirmed his influential role in Egypt's campaign, continuing to deliver strong performances as one of the most prominent players for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup.
