The people of this world are now beginning to pay the steep price for their gross negligence in matters of environmental and climate stewardship, and for their direct role in increasing thermal emissions and causing disruptions to weather patterns.

Weather and climate conditions are not merely temperature readings that range from their lowest to their highest — they are one of the key measures of the quality or disorder of life.

Climate conditions have their effects on plant life, agriculture, public health, average life expectancy, working hours, development, the economy, and hundreds of other vital details.

It is enough to consider the following figures to appreciate — numerically — the scale of the bill for climate disruption:

  • By the end of this year, total losses are expected to range between 3 and 4 trillion dollars.
  • Wildfires since 2020 and up to the start of this year have caused losses approaching 45 billion dollars, in addition to health-related losses.
  • The share of fire-related losses in natural disasters was 1%, a figure that has jumped this year to 7%.
  • The International Labour Organization expects daily working hours to fall by 2.2% by 2030.
  • During the most recent heatwave, labour productivity declined by between 18% and 38% due to heat.
  • Supply and distribution chains were disrupted by the recent heat by between 35% and 40%.

All of this has naturally affected the wellbeing of newborns, the elderly, and the sick, and has impacted summer tourism seasons in countries that were once prized summer leisure destinations, such as France, Spain, Greece, and Italy.

The bill for humanity's destruction of the environment is only in its early stages — unless mankind wakes from its environmental coma.
