President Donald Trump on Friday unveiled a model of a new limited-edition American passport, issued to mark the country's 250th anniversary of independence, bearing a stern-faced photo of himself.

Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform, accompanied by a prototype of the passport: "The new American passport, which says 'Welcome, but behave yourself!'"

The image shows Trump with a piercing gaze, leaning on his desk alongside his signature, with the text of the Declaration of Independence visible in the background. The photo appears to be inspired by an image taken by White House photographer Daniel Torok.

The opposite page features an illustration depicting the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, alongside the words "United States of America 250".

The White House shared the same passport model, accompanied by the words "The National Passport".

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which had previously announced that a commemorative passport featuring "custom artwork" would be available from 6 July, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Agence France-Presse.

In April, a State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, clarified that these passports would only be issued in Washington and would be available in limited quantities only.
