President Donald Trump on Friday unveiled a prototype of a new limited-edition American passport to mark the country's 250th anniversary of independence, bearing his image with a stern expression.
Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform, accompanied by a prototype of the passport: "The new American Passport, which says 'Welcome, but behave yourselves!'"
The image shows Trump with a sharp gaze, leaning on his desk with his signature, while the text of the Declaration of Independence appears in the background. The photo appears to have been inspired by an image taken by White House photographer Daniel Torok.
The facing page features a drawing depicting the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, alongside the words "United States of America 250".
The White House published the same passport prototype, accompanied by the phrase "The National Passport".
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which had previously announced that a commemorative passport featuring "custom artwork" would be available from 6 July, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Agence France-Presse.
In April, a State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the passports would only be issued in Washington and would be available in limited quantities only.
