The US military on Saturday denied Iranian statements about closing the Strait of Hormuz, saying the vital waterway remains open and that its forces are monitoring the situation to ensure it stays that way.
US Central Command spokesman Tim Hawkins told Reuters: "Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz... shipping traffic is continuing, and US forces are monitoring the situation to ensure that continues."
