40 people were killed and eight others injured after a passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a narrow valley in Balochistan province in south-western Pakistan.
Shahid Rind, spokesman for the Balochistan provincial government, said the driver lost control of the bus, which was travelling from Quetta to Peshawar, causing it to fall into the valley in the remote Dana Sar area, near the border between Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene of the accident, while the injured were transferred to hospitals for treatment and authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti expressed his condolences over the deaths in a statement and ordered authorities to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care.
