Japan's Meteorological Agency announced the recording of a magnitude-6.9 earthquake off the coast of northern Japan on Thursday, noting there was no tsunami threat.
The earthquake struck off the coast of Iwate Prefecture in northern Honshu island at a depth of 50 kilometres, according to the agency.
