The President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, announced that the death toll from the two earthquakes that struck the country on 24 June has risen to 4,490.

He added that the official number of injured remains unchanged at 16,740, while rescue teams have managed to save 6,462 people.

Venezuela was struck on 24 June by two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, with their epicentres in Yaracuy state separated by an interval of no more than 40 seconds, resulting in widespread human and material losses.
