The UN Security Council adopted, on Tuesday, Resolution 2826 (2026), which, among other things, extends the Secretary-General's mandate to submit periodic reports on the implementation of Resolution 2722 (2024) concerning the reporting of attacks in the Red Sea, for an additional six months, ending in mid-January next year.

The resolution was adopted with 13 Security Council members in favour, while Russia and China abstained from voting. It draws on a series of Security Council resolutions concerning Yemen and the Red Sea.

The resolution, adopted during the Council's 10,194th session, stipulates the extension of the reporting mandate contained in paragraph 10 of Resolution 2722 (2024) until 15 January 2027, ensuring the continued submission of periodic briefings to the Security Council on developments related to the situation in the Red Sea.
