The president of Venezuela's National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, announced that the death toll from two powerful earthquakes that struck the country on 24 June has risen to 4,118 killed and 16,740 injured.

A total of 30,076 emergency service personnel, 29,344 volunteers, and 3,931 foreign rescue workers are taking part in relief efforts.

Venezuela was struck on 24 June by two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, with their epicentres in Yaracuy state, approximately 40 seconds apart.
