French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist announced on Saturday that the first Ebola patient on French soil had "recovered" and "left the hospital."
The minister said in a statement, a copy of which was seen by Agence France-Presse, that the doctor working in the humanitarian sector who returned to France on 23 June from the Democratic Republic of Congo — where Ebola is spreading widely — "left today the health facility where he was being treated."
The minister noted that the patient "did not exhibit many symptoms," that he received "medical care and close monitoring," and that he "was able to return home safely."
On 15 May, a new wave of Ebola outbreak was declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to government data dated 2 July, the disease has caused at least 438 deaths among 1,406 cases.
