A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Japan's Honshu island on Saturday evening, with no immediate reports of casualties or material damage.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said the earthquake occurred 76 kilometres southeast of the city of Hachinohe, which has a population of more than 230,000, at a depth of 32 kilometres.
