Britain has tested new long-range offensive weapons that the government hopes could be delivered to Ukraine within months, as part of efforts to produce munitions faster and at lower cost than Storm Shadow missiles and similar systems.

The new systems, capable of striking targets at a range of at least 500 kilometres and carrying warheads weighing no less than 225 kilograms, were launched at a test range in the Hebrides, with additional trials to be conducted in the United Kingdom over the coming months, according to PA Media.

The British Ministry of Defence had challenged domestic companies to develop long-range offensive weapons capable of travelling at speeds exceeding 600 kilometres per hour, at a unit production cost of approximately £400,000, with the capacity to produce at least 20 weapons per month within months of receiving a production order.
