The death toll from the earthquake that struck off the coast of Sarangani province in the southern Philippines on 8 June has risen to at least 78, with 30 people still listed as missing.

The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the 7.8-magnitude earthquake affected around 1.5 million people, with 22,000 still living in temporary evacuation centres.

It added that approximately 74,700 homes were damaged by the earthquake, of which 13,700 were completely destroyed, along with 774 infrastructure facilities. Losses to infrastructure and agriculture have exceeded 1.32 billion pesos.
